Chemistry: How do I write a balanced chemical equationreaction for these acid-base reactions?

show/hide this revision's text 2 tags formatting

How would I write the balanced chemical equation for the reaction of aqueous hydrochloric acid with solid magnesium oxide?

The reactants should be HCL(aqHCl(aq) + MgO (s)MgO(s)

I first wrote OH^-1 OH- and 2MgCl as the products and I was wrong.

How would I write it properly and why was my answer wrong?

I had the same problem wth with aqueous ethanoic acid reacting with solid zinc carbonate for which I wrote:CH(sub3)COOH+(aq)

CH3COOH+ZnCO(sub3) (aq) + ZnCO3 --> CO(sub2) CO2(g) + H(sub2)O (l) H2O(l) + ZnCh(sub3)COO

andZnCH3COO

And also, the reaction for aqueous sulfuric acid is neutralised by aquerous aqueous magnesium hydroxide

correct and .

Correct, answer and reason if I'm wrong please?

thanks

Thanks!
