You don't need to know how LEDs are constructed, but you need to know how they operate in a circuit. Things like:

• Operate similar to diodes, but use slightly more voltage
• They have a switch-on voltage, like diodes
• (Hence) are non-ohmic devices (they have a non-linear I-V curve)

Ignore anything about n-p or p-n.
