In physics I learnt the SI unit for mass was Kg. In chemistry, when working out number of moles, I use grams for the 'mass'.

That's exactly right. You're not using SI when finding out masses (from molar masses) in VCE Chemistry, rather you're following the units. What I mean is that the molar mass is stated in "g/mol", so the mass you find will be in "g". It is possible to state a molar mass in kg/mol, and this would be the SI convention, but it is not followed in VCE Chemistry for some reason. Great pickup! Keen eyes like yours will get you far :) |
