Hello
I am wondering, how come fermentation is classified as a biological process. Some things say its fungi and others bacteria and others enzymes.
If somebody could help me on this question, I would very much appreciate it.

Fermentation is a process of deriving energy (ATP) that occurs in anaerobic conditions - lack of oxygen (though it can also occur in aerobic conditions). Fungi and bacteria can be anaerobic, therefore they undergo fermentation to produced energy. An example to explain this is muscle tissues. When oxygen is in low amounts during a jog, anaerobic respiration will take place. This means that the muscle tissue will function under low amounts of oxygen and ATP will be produced in the process of fermentation. Hope this makes sense! |
