Hello.

From my understanding after looking through the VTAC book, there are limited places/supply of University courses in each institution, with a substantial amount reserved for non-year 12's.

I was wondering, what would my options be if I ACHIEVED the ENTER score required to be "accepted" into first round, however due to there being overwhelming demand relative to supply, I am not accepted? Are University's allowed to do this?

Would my only option be to go to another University, even if my ENTER was enough to get me into a course at Melbourne University?

The universities will change the minimal ENTER depending on the demand.

The ENTER may rise a bit if the demand is high (e.g. The bachelor of arts degree (Melbourne Uni) was a good example where the minimal ENTER went from 85 - 88 due to demand), or it will drop if the demand is low. If you get the ENTER required (after moderations have been made) and meet all the pre-requisites, you will be offered a place.

I think the answer to your question is yes -- universities probably have the power to change their minds about those things.

Before the Melbourne Model, getting into a course was always about supply and demand. I don't understand how it works now, but I can't envisage it not acting on a similar system nowadays too!
