I am interested in English in particular, what career options are available for somebody interested in English for example? Other than the typical journalist or author?

English is a very broad topic - it might help to know specifically what it is about English that specifically interests you.

Is it the process of writing, reading or perhaps learning about the history of the English language? Each of these interests could lead down different paths.

In my opinion, it's very rare for a VCE student graduating from secondary school to know exactly what he wants to do straight away. It's a process of self-discovery: from what I've seen, most people (myself included) end up not enjoying what they do at University.

Fortunately, universities and educational institutions are aware of this and are fairly flexible in the way they are set up. For example: If you're studying Engineering and you find you're actually interested in Psychology, there's a good chance you can either add some Psychology electives or switch course altogether (and sometimes you can be awarded credit along the way!)

Don't worry: you probably won't get it right the first time. But there's plenty time to learn from your mistakes and adjust your trajectory.

To anyone pondering this question themselves: I would recommend you speak to a professional careers counsellor from your school before committing to a decision!

This great website http://www.myfuture.edu.au/Assist%20Others/Activities/Bullseye%20posters.aspx

Has a list of every subject area such as Chemistry, English, Business Studies, History amongst others.

Click the appropriate link, and a chart opens up in a new window, providing an extensive list of career opportunities if you are good at, or interested in (insert subject name).

It provided me great help in knowing where my interest in English can lead me!

Refer to the small text below which explains what level 1-4 means.

In summary, a career listed amongst the level 4 (inner circle) means you need a University qualification.
