Am I allowed to drop my seventh subject (which is unit 3+4 specialist maths), considering that I've already completed half of the course at school?

Yep that should not be a problem unless your school has some sort of issue with this. VCAA allows this.

Try to keep in mind that, if it isn't in your top four, you will still get consideration for how well (or badly) you do in your ATAR - IF you finish the 3 and 4 sequence. A percentage of a poor study score is still more than zero!

Subject selection is ultimately bottlenecked by your school. You may or may not be able to officially drop it from your timetable. You definitely can't pick up a subject to replace it, as you've missed out on Unit 3.

I would recommend staying in it, to give you the option of picking it up if time allows. Specialist Maths is a difficult course, but can be manageable - and can gets easier once you get over the hump (I'd say calculus).

At the very worst, you will just get a 0 for Specialist Maths - the same as dropping it.

Thanks for the advice Collin. I'll see if I can cope with calculus... although it happens to be the reason for why I want to drop specialist :( – humadeee Jun 19 at 7:24
You can always ask questions about Specialist Maths at Merspi! :-) – Collin Li Jun 22 at 22:19
