Lets settle this once and for all:

Many respectable past VCE physics students have said non-circular motion is not on the course. However, my textbook has devoted a good amount of space to it. The course has technically changed, but apparently not in this regard (or at least this wasn't mentioned).

So what's the up to date truth? Circular motion or not.

According to the Physics study design, non-uniform circular motion is in the course:

apply Newton’s second law to circular motion in a vertical plane; consider forces at the highest and lowest positions only

Vertical circular motion versus horizontal circular motion is not the same as non-uniform circular motion. Non-uniform circular motion disagrees with centripetal forces, and doesn't have a fixed v. – Collin Li Jan 30 at 23:22
Ok, just that in my textbook under the heading "Non-uniform circular motion" it talks about vertical circular motion! Thanks for the clear-up. – Blakhitman Jan 31 at 3:16
