So I'm starting circular functions in school now, and I've done it in year 11.

The thing is, I still don't understand the purpose of this topic.

Why is sin, cos, tan involved? What am I trying to look for by using circular functions?

Trigonometric functions are known as circular functions because they are defined from the unit circle (even though trigonometry is usually first used on triangles!!).

See the following link for an explanation of the unit circle: http://www.mathsisfun.com/geometry/unit-circle.html
