Just been wondering if anyone would know and be able to recommend a good VCE English tutor for me. I am an average student in English, excelling in predominantly the Maths and Science areas and am therefore slightly worried about my English study score potentially ruining my ATAR. I have had English tutors in the past, student teachers who were training to be English teachers and just "general" tutors. Although they did prove helpful in providing feedback on essays that I needed to hand in as part of assignments and homework they were unable to help me much when it came to specific texts and the key areas of VCE English - Language Analysis, Creating And Presenting and Text Response essays.

Basically, my primary requirement for a tutor is that they are currently teaching Units 3/4 English and are able to help me consolidate and then subsequently extend on my writing. That being said I also do understand the costs involved with such English tutors and are willing to pay the price as well as travel the distance for someone good. It would be much appreciated if someone, a current or past student could recommend someone for me or even a current VCE English teacher, or a teacher of another subject who knows of a good English tutor.

Hi there,

I realise this is late but Chris O'Callaghan is a good tutor. Just type his name in google and you should find him :)

A lot of people think he is quite up himself due to the excessive price and 'boasting' his credentials but he was a great tutor for me.

That being said, I think you'll find that some of the best English tutors aren't VCE teachers or studying to be a teacher. There are ex-VCE students currently in university who understand the experience and have a unique angle since they know what you're going through and can give you the best tips how to tackle a SAC etc. I went to Chris so when I tutor I take on some of the things he taught me to my students and they're paying a much lower price!

I believe tutorfinder.com is a good place to find these types of tutors.

I hope that helps you :)
