Both Melb and Moansh I great uni's but which is the best to study an art course such as classics

It's an individual decision really. Melbourne has the new(ish) Melbourne model, which is a turn-off for some arts students. It means part of your course has to be a breadth subject - a subject outside your study area. You can find out more here.

What's really important is the difference in the course they offer. If you look in the course handbooks, they list and the different electives you can choose in the various years of your degree. You can find information about Melbourne arts here and Monash here.

You should also try and get to both university open days and talk to as many people as you can. Think about where you would like to live, travel distances, scholarships offered, the general atmosphere, facilities etc.

This year’s clearly-in score for Melbourne and Monash are the same - 88. I suppose from that you could draw the conclusion that there is pretty much equal demand and interest in both courses.

N/B: Parts of the Parkville Melbourne uni campus are kind like real-life Hogawarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. This may the a deciding factor as to why so many students make it their first preference.
